Dear Jack,

We’re embarrassed that it’s gotten to the point where we have to explicitly write this:

Don’t support a coup.

Donald Trump is attempting a coup. And he’s running it through Twitter.

Yes, we know you’ve been flagging him, but flagging doesn’t help — it attracts more attention and more engagement. One flagged tweet has almost half a million likes and retweets. How many millions of people saw the tweet and believed it?

Jack, you said leaders need to be held accountable. Is he still a leader when the election has been called? When his actions put the nation and the president-elect, at risk?

We predicted most of these atrocities — the lies, the harassment, the toxicity, the DENIAL — 15 days ago, and even earlier almost four years ago.

Even leaders of watchdog groups, including Common Cause and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, are calling you out now.

He claims victory and his Twitter account continues to spew treasonous lies designed to incite rebellion and overturn a democratic election. If anything, votes were suppressed by the Republicans. All while the rest of the world is celebrating and recognizes our election results. While you have enabled voter misinformation, disinformation about election results, and have been working actively to prevent this outcome.

Do you now want to be responsible for a coup? Do you want to be responsible for the overthrow of 244 years of democracy?

We repeat once again, the decision is yours. Do the right thing.

With diminishing respect,

Laura I. Gómez and Ellen K. Pao
